Dr. Valluvan Jeevanandam, MD, is the Cynthia Chow Professor Surgery and Director of the Heart & Vascular Center at the University of Chicago. Dr. Jeevanandam specializes in the surgical management of heart failure, and is an expert in high-risk and bloodless (transfusion-free) cardiac surgery. He has performed more than 2,000 heart transplants and LVAD implants — including the total artificial heart — as well as countless other cardiac surgery procedures, such as transmyocardial laser revascularization, complex valve reconstruction, and minimally invasive coronary artery bypass graft surgery. He also has a special interest in treating patients traditionally considered inoperable. He has repaired damaged hearts in several patients awaiting transplant, enabling those patients to forgo transplantation.
